Technology entry this time! Today I have to do an induction about RFID an its application in the supply chain (within the MBA Subject Information Systems Management). RFID stands for Radio Frequency Identification, it’s quite an interesting technology. It’s thought to improve functionalities of a simple bar code. It transmits an identification code of an object via radio though the air interface. It has many applications, for instance, libraries, your ski-ticket, in your car, medicine and so on…
Probably, one of the most polemic applications is when is used for identification of human beings, there is a lot of controversy related to the inherit security problems and usual BIG brother (Government) type of claims or concerns.
RFID keeps getting smaller. On February 13, Hitachi unveiled a tiny, new “powder” type RFID chip measuring 0.05 x 0.05 mm — the smallest yet — which they aim to begin marketing in 2 to 3 years.
Just imagine possibilities for spying with those tiny little things! Watch out James Bond!
Thanks and smile,
dk
